Interior Verandas
A Minka in Yasato-machi: 19th c., Niihari County, Ibaragi Pref.

Here the amado are placed outside the veranda, making the veranda a part of the interior of the house.
The open feeling is increased by reducing the number of pillars around the veranda. After the Meiji Restoration,
with the introduction of glass, it became possible to replace some of the paper in the shoji screens with glass,
making it possible to view the garden even when the shoji' screens are closed.
